Invasive pests and tree diseases are reshaping Ontario's landscape, and Simcoe County is not immune. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has devastated millions of ash trees across the province. Dutch Elm Disease continues to kill mature elms. Diplodia Tip Blight is spreading through Austrian and Scots pines. Early identification and timely intervention are the difference between saving a tree and losing it entirely.

Emerald Ash Borer is the most pressing threat in our region. This invasive beetle attacks all North American ash species, boring beneath the bark and disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients. Trees typically die within 3–5 years of initial infestation. Preventive trunk injection treatments applied before or in the early stages of infestation can protect ash trees for 2–3 years per application. Our arborists will assess your ash trees and recommend whether treatment or removal is the right approach based on the extent of dieback.

Dutch Elm Disease (DED) is a fungal infection spread by bark beetles that has eliminated most mature elms in North America. With prompt pruning of infected branches and proper sanitation of beetle habitat, the disease can sometimes be managed in lightly infected trees. We also work with clients on elm replacement programs and disease-resistant cultivar selection.
